SOUTHERN CRISPY FRIED CHICKEN RECIPE

SOUTHERN CRISPY FRIED CHICKEN RECIPE

Canola Oil / shortening

One large egg

1 Whole Chicken
(3 Pounds or 1 1/2 kg)

1 cup milk

1 tsp. garlic salt

3 cups flour

1/4 tsp. baking powder

1/2 tsp. paprika

1 tsp. pepper

1 tsp. onion salt

2 tsp. salt

Step 1

Remove the skin to trim extra fat (calories) from each serving if desired

Step 2

Fill the Deep Skillet / Deep fryer with Oil and preheat to 360 Fahrenheit / 180 Celcius degrees.

To fry chicken, a deep skillet works well as does a deep fat fryer. If using a skillet, make sure it is large, deep and very heavy (consider a cast-iron skillet). The heat will hold better and will result in crispier fried chicken. To note, a deep fryer uses more oil but can end up being less messy because the oil will splash less.

Step 3

Beat one large egg inside a bowl -> then add 1 cup of milk, mix the egg + milk together by using fork

Step 4

Grab another bowl, combine the Dry Ingredients: 3 cups flour + 1 tsp. garlic salt + 1/4 tsp. baking powder+1/2 tsp. paprika + 1 tsp. pepper + 1 tsp. onion salt + 2 tsp. salt  (Please adjust seasonings to your taste preferences)

Step 5

Dip each chicken piece in the egg and milk mixture ->>  then completely coat chicken with the Dry mixture.

Please repeat this step. If you coat  the chicken twice it makes it super extra crispy like Kentucky Fried Chicken or Just like any finger lickin' good Fried Chicken

Step 6

Before frying, let the battered and coated chicken dry for a few minutes; wet chicken will cause the oil to splatter around your stove more

Step 7

Reduce the heat to medium-high and place a lid on the pan. Cook about 25 minutes or until golden brown, flipping if necessary. Remove lid and cook another 5 minutes.

Cooking time depends on the size of your deep fryer and the amount of chicken you're cooking.

Step 8

Remove with tongs and drain on a rack or brown paper bags to reduce excess oil

Crispy Fried Chicken are ready after 5 - 10 minutes.

Tip: the best pieces of chicken for frying are the wings, drumsticks, thighs, and breasts

  • 2
Fill the deep fryer with shortening and preheat to 350 degrees.

  • 3
Beat one large egg in medium bowl then add 1 cup of milk. In the second bowl, combine the dry ingredients adjusting seasonings to your taste preferences.

  • 4
Dip each chicken piece in the egg and milk mixture then completely coat with the dry mixture. Repeat this step. Coating the chicken twice makes it extra crispy like Kentucky Fried Chicken.

  • 5
Set each chicken piece on a plate after coating. When all pieces are coated check that your deep fryer is ready for frying.

  • 6
Fry chicken a few pieces at a time so as not to crowd the deep fryer. Stir once in the middle of cooking. Chicken will take about 10 to 15 minutes depending on the size of your deep fryer and the amount of chicken you're cooking.

  • 7
Use tongs to remove the chicken when golden brown and place on a draining rack or a pan lined with paper towels. Chicken is ready after five minutes.
